Skylark 57 Gibson Style

This is my first built from scratch. I liked the looks and the year (1957) it was made. The only way to have one besides buying an original one ($$$) was to make it, so I did.

After getting the template made from a picture, I got a piece of maple wood and started cutting and sanding….

Shaped the head stock and made the holes for the tuner keys.

Bought the components, volume and tone pots and found a pickup on line. Wired and tested with my template pickguard.

I hade the GREAT idea of making a pickguard from 1/8″ stainless steel like the original. I had lots of fun cutting it out. But I’m glad it’s done….

After measuring my frets positions I painted the base ivory and taped the inlays before painting black.

Here it is after painting the black color.

I used Golden Wheat as the base color and Tru Oil as the finish. Very nice result.
